When reporters find a great scopist who not only has the skills but is compatible with their software and general preferences, they have every reason to keep that scopist too busy to work elsewhere. But how should reporters find the right scopist? That is where we hope we can help! While there are so many people online claiming to be scopists, our mission is to connect active court reporters with legitimate U.S.A.-based scopists who are either just starting out, or are looking for one or two new clients. As you look through our directory, you will see that some scopists have a "Verified" tag on their profile. This is our in-house process to help confirm that a scopist is legitimate. To become verified, we have our scopists provide the name of a court reporter who has worked with them previously and can attest to their work quality. Once we have made contact with the reporter, we add the "Verified" tag to the profile. This system does not guarantee that every scopist in our directory is of the highest-quality, and it does not mean that anyone missing the Verified tag is not legitimate. If a scopist is fairly new, they may not have a licensed CR who can attest for them, or they may be cautious about providing the name of their client. For this reason, we encourage every reporter who visits our directory to explore a scopist's profile, visit their website or Facebook, and have a few good questions ready to ask the scopist. We have also seen many times where a reporter mentors a new scopist and invests in training them, then they create a lasting work relationship and friendship that allows both to have a wonderful career. I still maintain my licenses in Illinois, Tennessee, and am a full member of NCRA. My colleagues would not let me retire and insisted, strong-armed, threatened, and bribed me to proofread and scope for them. I now spend a lot of my time RealTeaming.
